As of January 1, 2018, ethyl alcohol “pales”; in fact, starting from this date, the denaturing of ethyl alcohol changes, as required by the Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2017/1112 of 22 June 2017 (which modifies the Regulation (EC) No. 3199/93 on the recognition reciprocal process of complete denaturing of alcohol for excise duty purposes).
The new denaturing does not provide for the addition of the red dye, even though, the Customs and Monopoly Agency, with the note n ° 77062 of 19 July 2017 provides that: “…. exercising the right granted to the Member States …., it is established that, for the alcohol destined to be marketed in containers with a maximum capacity of 2.5 liters …., denaturing is carried out on the national territory adding the colorant C.I. to the aforementioned substances. Reactive Red 24 “.
Therefore, without prejudice to the denaturing of ethyl alcohol with the new substances, we will see, in packaging above 2.5 liters, transparent alcohol.
